21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that through my being with you again your boasting in Christ Jesus will abound on account of me. Phil 1:21-26 NIV

Sometimes life seems so bad that we would just as soon that God would call us home to heaven. Sometimes we even contemplate hurrying the process up through suicide. But that is not God’s plan for us. Paul, who was in prison sitting between two elite soldiers saw even trouble as opportunity. Oh that we should have the evangelistic fervor of a Paul.

We often say self correction is the best teacher so I will add self application is the best application. So what can you learn from or apply from this passage today? How is God speaking to you amidst your troubles?

May God lighten your heart as you seek to do His will in reaching out to others with the gospel of peace.
