Matthew 6:19-20 (NKJV)
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Heaven Is Where I Bank

Monetary resources are difficult for most believers to deal with because of the conflicting messages that we are bombarded with. The world constantly tells us more is better. We put men like Bill Gates, Donald Trump and Steve Jobs on a pedestal because of the monetary resources they have accumulated. At the same time, we hear messages in the church that seem to indicate that we should give all our money away, or at least a sizable portion.

To achieve a proper perspective about our money we have to understand one important fact. Without God, money is meaningless. No matter how much you accumulate and hoard, it will mean nothing if it is not being used for a purpose that has eternal significance. It will not bring you happiness nor will it provide you with real security. Real security and happiness are only purchased with the blood of Jesus Christ.

If you don’t believe me, read Ecclesiastes and hear it from Solomon, a man who had all the riches of the world. What is vitally important is not whether you have money or not, it is your view of money and how are you using it.

We should view money as a means to an end and never as the end goal itself. If there is not much in your bank account, then God has called you to be shrewd with your resources so that they provide for your family and still can be used to glorify Him. Your giving and gifts please God greatly because He knows they are given sacrificially.

If you have been blessed with great financial resources, that simply means that you have been entrusted with much and much is expected of you. As you embark on your mission, you should lay down some concrete plans regarding how your monetary resources can be used for His glory.

Express your willingness to give over your finances to God and ask for clear opportunities to give in ways that glorify Him. If this is an area of struggle for you, then pray for God to work on that stronghold.

Ask Yourself,
Do you tithe? Are there ways you give over and above your tithe? If you have been blessed with an abundance, do you seek ways to bless others through giving? When you give, is it a big show or do you give privately, secretly?
