But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander and filthy language from your lips.
I was recently appraised of a situation where someone had dug up some dirt on someone’s past and threatened to tell everyone they knew about it. This person was taking great delight in the fact that the other person had made a mistake and wanted the world to know about it.
In sports of all kinds we see the other team or members of the opposing team trash talking in order to intimidate their opponent. Sometimes it works because it stirs up anger.
In martial arts we are trained to keep our minds calm and not to be controlled by our emotions. So it is true as believers as well; we are to keep our minds calm and focused on Christ rather than to be pulled this way or that by the variances of life.
So, the next time someone trash talks at you or tries to slander you, remember that they are not of God but instead are the same as the devil who is the father of lies.
Joh 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
